How to save links from Discord and Slack (and find them again)

Published · 6 min read

Guide cover: “How to save links from Discord and Slack (and find them again)” beside a Linkeeper screenshot of a saved-links library

In Slack, touch and hold a message, tap More actions, and choose Save for later; saved items then appear in the Saved section of Home. Discord has no equivalent saved-messages list at the time of writing, so the usual answer there is to copy the link somewhere else.

This guide covers both: what each app offers on iPhone, how to look for a link you only half remember, why links get lost in busy channels, and how to move the few that matter into a library that does not depend on a server's history. Menu names are as of writing and can differ between app versions.

How do I save a message with a link in Slack?

Slack has a built-in way to bookmark a message or file for yourself. Saved items are visible only to you.

  1. 1Touch and hold the message that contains the link.
  2. 2Tap More actions.
  3. 3Choose Save for later.
  4. 4To find it again, open the Saved section of Home.

Slack is moving saved items around: the older Later list has become To-dos in newer versions, so your app may look slightly different. If you cannot find the Saved section, check Slack's help pages for your version.

Does Discord have a way to save a link?

Not a personal one. Discord users have asked for a save or bookmark feature for messages for years, and the app does not list one in the message menu at the time of writing. What Discord does have:

  • Pinned messages: a pin belongs to the channel, not to you, so everyone sees it, and it normally needs the right permission. Discord raised the per-channel limit from 50 to 250 pins in August 2025. Pins suit links the whole community needs, not your private reading list.
  • Search: the search icon at the top of a server or chat looks through messages. The desktop and browser search offers filters, including one for messages that contain links; the iPhone app may offer fewer, so test it on your device.
  • Your own copy: copy the link and send it to yourself somewhere you control, such as a private server you own or a read-later app.

How do I find an old link I only half remember?

Both apps search message text, so the words around the link are usually the best clue: the topic, the sender's name, the name of the site.

  1. 1Open the search in the server, workspace or conversation where you think it was shared.
  2. 2Search a word from the message, the person who sent it or the site's name.
  3. 3Narrow by channel or person if the app offers it, then open the result to jump to the original message.

Why do links get lost in Discord and Slack?

  • Busy channels bury a link under hundreds of newer messages within a day.
  • The sender deleted the message, or a moderator removed it.
  • You left the server or channel, or lost access to it.
  • On some workspaces, an admin limits how long message history is kept, so old messages are no longer available.

The common thread: a link only lives as long as the message that carried it, and you do not control that message. Anything you will want next month is worth copying out.

How do I keep a Discord or Slack link in Linkeeper?

Linkeeper is an iPhone and iPad app for saving links and reading them later. It keeps links on your device, in a library you can search by title, tag, note or saved text, and it does not need an account.

  1. 1In Discord or Slack, touch and hold the message and copy the link. If the link is shown as a preview, tap it first so you can copy the address from the page, or copy the message text.
  2. 2Open Linkeeper and tap + in the Library header to open the add screen.
  3. 3Tap Save copied link. Linkeeper reads the clipboard only when you tap, shows a preview, and tells you if that link is already in your library. iOS may ask you to allow pasting.
  4. 4Add a short note, such as the channel or why you want it, then save. Tags and collections can be added later.

If the link opens in Safari, you can also use the Share button there and choose Linkeeper, which saves it without opening the app. If Linkeeper is not in the share row, add it to the share sheet first.

Later, search a word from the title, your note or the article itself, even without a connection. To keep a growing list tidy, see how to organize bookmarks with tags or folders.

Frequently asked questions

How do I save a message in Slack on iPhone?
Touch and hold the message, tap More actions, and choose Save for later. Saved items are private to you and are found in the Saved section of Home; newer versions may label things slightly differently.
Can I save messages in Discord for later?
Discord has no personal saved-messages list at the time of writing. You can pin a message in a channel if you have permission, but pins are visible to everyone there. To keep a link for yourself, copy it into a read-later app or a private place you control.
Why can't I find a link someone posted in a Discord or Slack channel?
The message may have been deleted, buried in a busy channel, hidden because you left the channel, or removed by a history limit. Try searching a word from the message or the sender's name.
How do I keep an important Discord or Slack link?
Copy the link, then in Linkeeper tap + and Save copied link. It is stored on your device with a preview and an optional note, and you can search it later.
Does Linkeeper connect to my Discord or Slack account?
No. Linkeeper never connects to Discord or Slack. You copy a link yourself and save it; it reads the clipboard only when you tap Save copied link.
