How to export your Instagram saved posts and collections
Published · 5 min read

To export your Instagram saved posts, open Profile → ☰ → Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information, choose Some of your information → Saved, pick JSON, and request the download. When Meta emails you, download the .zip. It holds links to your saved posts and your collections, not the photos or videos themselves.
Below are the steps, what to expect in the file, and how to turn it into a list you can search. Menu names change between Instagram versions, so look for the closest match if a label differs on your phone.
Can you export Instagram saved posts?
Not from the Saved tab itself: there is no export or share-all button there. The way to get the whole list out is Instagram's data download, which packages parts of your account data into a file. You can ask for only the Saved category, which keeps the download small.
What you get is a list of links with dates, plus your collections. That makes it a permanent record of what you saved, useful if a post is deleted, an account goes private, or you want to leave the app. The link stays in your file even when the post no longer opens.
How do I request my saved posts?
- 1In Instagram, open your profile, tap the menu (☰), then Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information.
- 2Choose Download or transfer information, select your Instagram account, then pick Some of your information and tick Saved.
- 3Choose to download to device, set the date range to All time and the format to JSON (it is the easiest to read later), then submit the request.
- 4Wait for the email from Meta saying the file is ready, open the link and download the .zip. On iPhone, save it to the Files app.
Instagram may ask for your password before the download starts, and the file is only available for a limited time, so download it soon after the email arrives. If you cannot find the option, update the app: where it sits can differ between versions.
What is in the file, and what is not?
The download is a .zip. Inside, look for saved_posts.json (your saved posts) and saved_collections.json (your collections and which posts are in each). Each saved entry has the account name, a link to the post or Reel, and the date you saved it.
- Included: links to saved posts and Reels, the date you saved them, and the names of your collections.
- Not included: the photos and videos, and usually no caption, so the file alone reads like a long list of links.
- Exports from other categories you may have ticked, such as messages or media, are separate and you do not need to open them.
How do I turn the file into a list I can search?
Linkeeper, an iPhone app, can read this file directly. It reads it on the phone and does not upload it; only the links go into your library.
- 1In Linkeeper, open Settings → Library → Import from other apps, or tap the import button on the empty Home screen.
- 2Tap Choose file and pick the .zip (or saved_posts.json inside it) from Files.
- 3Check the preview. It shows how many new links were found, how many are already in your library or repeated in the file, and has a switch for each group, including each collection.
- 4Confirm. Your collection names become tags, links keep their original save dates and are tagged Instagram, and titles and thumbnails fill in as Linkeeper fetches them. Undo import removes exactly what that import added.
Instagram often blocks automatic previews, so some titles and thumbnails can take longer to appear or stay blank, but the links themselves are in your library right away. For using Saved and collections inside Instagram, see how to see your saved posts on Instagram.
What if I only need a few posts?
A data request is overkill for a handful of posts. Open the post, tap Share → Copy link and paste it somewhere you can search. How to save TikTok, Instagram and Facebook links covers saving them one at a time from the share sheet, and how to export your TikTok Favorites does the same job for TikTok. To keep a copy of the whole library, see how to back up your links.
If you want the photos and videos themselves, this export will not help: it only lists links.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I export my Instagram saved posts?
- Go to Profile → ☰ → Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information, choose Some of your information → Saved, pick JSON, and submit. Download the .zip from Meta's email when it is ready; saved_posts.json lists the links you saved.
- Does the Instagram data download include the photos and videos?
- Not for saved posts. It lists links and dates, plus your collections, not the media itself.
- Are my collections included?
- Yes, in saved_collections.json: the collection names and which posts are in each.
- Will a deleted post still be in the export?
- The link stays in the file, but opening it will no longer show the post.
- Can Linkeeper import my Instagram saved posts?
- Yes. Choose the .zip from Instagram under Import from other apps. It reads the file on your iPhone, turns collections into tags, skips links you already have, and lets you undo the import.
